I was recently laid off in California and I have filed for Unemployment insurance. It states that I have to be actively looking for a job. I’m planning to take 2-3 months off to take a break and travel a bit. Can I collect on unemployment while I take my trip? I know it sounds a bit shady and may be wrong but I’m curious what the consequences are if I’m caught. Do they just terminate my claim?
Should I just wait till I get back from my vacation before I file the claim?
Thanks in advance!

If you get caught they can and probably will make you pay back all the money you have received. So no you can’t take a vacation.
