  1. Cool Mum

I think its alright. You definitely can send back $500 per month if you are sharing an apartment. That can save you a lot. Probably rental is $600? Then food, indian food is cheap..unless you are going to fancy North indian restaurants and have kebabs and naans and such. South indian dishes are very cheap.. you can get tosai for as little as S$1.80. Movies is abt $9 per show (on weekends) and news paper is abt $0.80cents per day..shopping, im sure you know Mustafa, needs no introduction on that one. So I say, $3,200 for a single man is very much sufficient.

more than enough, brother…… more than enough!

I believed with being paid on S$3200, you will have no much time for butter and bread, you will find very difficult to view sun rinses and almost in close with the moon ; most probably you don’t have many friends surrounding you however laptop could be one of your intimated friend. With these conditions you have no problem of having :

1)Live single in a shared accomodation in any suburb 30
    minutes away

2)Housing, Travel(to CBD), food (Preferebly indian) basic
food items(Bread, Butter, Cup noodles etc), 2 calling
cards a month(120 Minutes each), Internet access,
personal entertainment allowance (a movie a month etc)
news paper, some basic clothing…… and around S$500 to
    send back home…..

Brother, don’t worry!! This money is more than enough.

    Should be enough.

Your fixed cost will be :

Housing rental : around S$400.00 for a room (can be room sharing to cut cost down, depending on the owner)

Food : about S$10.00 per day (reasonably ok and hawker centre food)

Travelling : averagely around S$150.00 (can be less) for travelling to and fro from work plus weekend outings

    Variable cost :

Calling cards : Not too sure about this (lots of service providers out there)

Internet Access : S$20 ~ S$30++ per month for basic broadband service (if the owner of the house let you subscribe it)

Newpaper : www.straitstimes.com (free readable news are very limited, unless you go for subcription) www.channelnewsasia.com —> FREE!!!

Basic clothing and personal entertainment… you can control and decide for yourself, the variance can be huge.

Lastly, there are taxation schemes for foreign employees, check it with your future employer to be sure.

    Just my 2 cents…

If you make ~$3200.00 per months,

If you willing to rent a room in the housing estate, ~$600/month
If you just go to the local coffee shop or hawker centre for Indian food, ~$15/day (~$450/month)
If you call home (Indian) 120Min’s/months, $0.053/mins, which cost ~$20.00
If you just went for a movie a months, it will cost you ~$10/month.
If you want to sent home $500/month, total of living ~$2000.00 (in case you spend a bit more or better food etc).

Therefore, $3200 for you, more than enough. In fact, there are Singaporean live lesser than $2000 per month with every thing you mention.

    just to add on.

    - you can use skype to call, it’s much cheaper
    - movies are $10 per ticket on weekends now
    - 24-hour indian coffeeshops are popular, prata and stuff. places like simpang bedok, or fong seng, etc.

from what you have described above, it seems a modest lifestyle, $3200 will definitely be sufficient. you could even have some savings if you don’t splurge too much.

    have fun in singapore! 8)

Enjoys life for a single with income 3200 SGD.( standard good life ) with some small money to send back . but if it too many night life will not enough. also need to balance out about 3,000 for income tax. All depend how you control ? if not 32,000 also money not enough.

Given that you plan to live simply, $3200 will be more than enough to live on.

Other things to consider: Will you be required to contribute to CPF? Do you need medicines regularly?

For housing rental, you usually need to pay 1 month deposit and 1 month advance, renting a room works out around $400-$600/mth depending on the location & house condition.

Also you may like to check if the owner allows you to use the kitchen (for cooking), living room etc, also some owners wouldn’t mind providing 1 meal/day (if you’re staying with them & they cook daily) with some top ups. Also check if your rental includes water & electric bills.

Hawker food works out between (avg) $3 – $6 per meal, one loaf of bread avg $2, Internet access depending on the plan you use (abt $20/mth up), movies at $10/tix on weekend.

Cheapest way to travel is by public bus and MRT.

There are all kinda entertainment available, so how much you may use depends on what kinda activities you prefers.
