I went to NZ at the beginning of the year, forgetting all about the fact i had a court case for driving with no insurance (an oversight, thought i was insured, turned out was, but not on friends policy). Anyway, I didnt attend court (date was whilst still in uk) and got a letter demanding 700 pound fine. I spoke to the court concerned and said i’d pay it at the end of that month. However, a week into the following month i left for NZ on a one year working visa. Not paying the fine in all honesty was just something i forgot as i’m sure you can imagine my preoccupication with getting to New Zealand!
I’ve just been told by my friend with whom that I was staying with that there is a warrent for my arrest and the small matter of my fine to be paid!
If i could summon up 700 quid, i’ll pay it immediatly as this is the last thing i want! But i cant…the equivilant sum here is almost a months wages and as i’m only doing seasonal jobs, i really cant pay…
What are my options? If I were to travel again say to the states or europe (i already have a visa waiver permit to travel to the states valid for 2 years) would i get stopped and sent back to the uk?
I have no intention of coming back to the uk, but I also dont want to have the worry of being stopped if i were to travel again. I know the easiest option would be to pay the fine, but thats not really going to happen as i cant afford to leave NZ and pay the fine..and I have to leave NZ as my visa is only for a year!
Help! any advice, answers would be great.
I know morally what i’ve done is wrong so spare me the lectures please!
Thank you
As long as you have a warrant, it will not go away. Kind of like a pregnant fox in a bushfire.
