If you did a safe lane change and have witnesses attesting to that, You shouldn’t have a problem. Sounds to me like the other driver wasn’t paying attention and over reacted when they saw you ahead of them. Good luck.

Well forget about what you know happened. What is important is what can be “proved”. It will all depend on what the “witness” thinks he saw and what he reported to the police. You have been cited for an unsafe lane change. I will assume that means that the “witness” said that you made an unsafe lane change and caused the accident. The police don’t care about what happened. They only care about what they can “prove” on paper. Criminal charges are likely to follow. You will find this out when the police knock on your door and arrest you. If you have assests that are worth protecting, you need to see a lawyer NOW. Do this BEFORE you talk to their lawyer. DO NOT talk to their lawyer before talking to yours. He will then instruct you to NEVER talk to their lawyer, he will talk to him. Their lawyer will try to get you to make incriminating statements. Just the fact that they already have a lawyer means that you need one now. Stop whatever you are doing and retain one immediatly! I hope that you were well insured. Good luck, and remember don’t talk to their lawyer.

Even though you followed the rules of lane change, you had extremely shitty judgement.

Even if he was speeding, you should be smart enough to notice, hes coming up fast, and to wait to let him pass before you attemt the lane change. You and him could have both winded up dead. When you drive, you have to have the mindset, every single other person on the road is an idiot.

Now granted he may have been speeding, so maybe there is no grounds to lay charges against you.

Its up to what the police determine. But the tire treads and such, they can figure out how fast he was going.
