My two children and I will be traveling to Canada in April. My husband is active duty military and our insurance is Tricare. I was just wondering, if for whatever reason any of us needed to see a dr. while in Canada, will it be covered by Tricare.
I guess that I should add that I will contact Tricare as the time gets closer, but just thought maybe someone would have had experience with this and knew a quick answer. Also, my husband will not be traveling with us, just myself and my kids.
Contact Tricare and ask them…
I strongly advise you to contact your provider to find out rather than rely on Yahoo answers. If your health care provider does not automatically cover you it probably will be able to sell you travellers’ insurance. As far as your husband goes, should he become ill and require medical care, dr. or medical bills should probably be forwarded to the United States Defense Attache at the US Embassy in Ottawa.
I was in the Canadian military and our leave documents had directions printed on the back side advising what to do if we required medical care while on leave in the USA. There’s a reciprical agreement between Canada and the United States for provision/payment of medical expenses for active duty military on leave in each others countries but it doesn’t extend to dependants.
Tricare will cover you in the event of an emergency. It will not cover routine visits. I am current military reserve and live near the border with Canada. I suggest you go to the Tricare website where you can see the coverages allowed.
