Canceling a trip made through Hotwire?

I want to cancel a trip I made through Hotwire. I bought the insurance but I was reading it and it was saying I have to be either terminally ill, seriously injured, called for jury duty, laid off, etc. to cancel my hotel. All of which do not apply to me, I just have personal family issues and it wouldn’t be smart for me to travel right now. Do they need evidence that anything has actually happened to me if I say I was laid off or something? Has anyone done this before? I am booked for the Holiday Inn in Toronto in 2 weeks for one night.

    Yuppa – you will need to show proof of a valid reason to cancel
