I want to buy travel insurance, but they want to know my country of residence. I am a US citizen who is working in Japan. I am eligible to recieve the tax exemption for the IRS, so I have sent in forms saying I am living overseas.
This may sound like a silly question – but for the insurance would I want to put my country of residence as Japan or the US? When I emailed them it was like they had not even read my question.
if you have dealt with this before, I would appreciate knowing your experience! Thanks
ah yeah, I want the travel insurance to travel from Japan, where I work, to India for vacation.
Well, as I understand and use the term, “country of residence” is the country where you currently have your accommodation (for longer than just a vacation or an 8-week language course, etc.), receive your mail, etc.
I know it’s probably a drag, but have you tried getting a travel insurance from a Japanese insurer via a normal travel agent’s (if they have such a thing in Japan?). They might be more used to sell policies to Japanese residents with no Japanese citizenship, than US firms are to selling policies to US citizens not residing within (and not starting their journey from) the US.
also: in Germany, wherever there are large US military installations, there are also US lawyers, US car salesmen, and other stricly US services; couldn’t you find someone in Japan to help you via that route?
Ok we were stationed at NAF Atsugi, and i just went into the travel agency there in base…try figuring out which one is the closest…NAVY is Yokosuka and Atsugi ARMY is Camp Zama AIR FORCE is Yokota (those are the ones that i know of …marines are there too but i am not too sure where exactly) just try to find the one closest to you and go in person to ask them for advice….
If you want to call the number for NAF Atsugi’s IACE Travel is: DSN 264-6298/6297 Off Base 0467-63-6298/6297
Hope that helps!!
