Hi, I have recently moved to New York City from England, I am on a tourist visa, I’m not a resident and my birth control has run out. In the UK we don’t need health insurance so I’m not sure how it all works over here. I hope some one can give me some advice.
As a non resident can I just call any doctor and make an appointment? If so how much abouts will it cost? ( I only have travel insurance and am pretty sure they wont cover birth control!)
How much is the birth control? Also do you have to be a U.S resident to go to the Planned Parenthood clinics? I looked at their website online and you have to enter a social security no. which I don’t have.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!
I don’t think it matters if you are not a resident. As long as you have money, most places will take you. They probably need a social security number for insurance or tracking purposes. Planned parenthood is probably your best option in this situation. They are cheaper than most doctors and they usually have birth control in house that they can give you the same day.
Try to find a free clinc they will just give you some but be carefully whch ones you take and do your homework.
You could make an appointment with any doctor that you choose, but it will be quite expensive. I’d try calling the planned parenthood clinic. I think they will take you and it won’t cost much at all. Birth control pills cost approximately 35 to 40 dollars a month.
Planned Parenthood. You don’t necessary need to give them your social security number. It’s optional. If you don’t have insurance or if you have a low income, chances are you don’t even have to pay for an appointment. My advice to you would be to make an appointment anyway. I’m more than sure they will be able to accomodate you. Good luck!
