i dont have a knowledge. so i can only assume. if you get the money on certain account, then just keep it open, and withdraw from it. if its a check, just get PO box. and get them forward it to you, or your friend pick it up or something. i just think that if you start all that process with them, it will be screwed up and you will wait forever. chances are it will be hard to even find someone who knows in that agency what to do.
once again, i dont know for a fact. sorry

Since SSI is a US government program, I wouldn’t think you could receive cash if you were out of the country. SSI is best described as a type of welfare the government pays for people who are disabled and can’t get social security disability. I know you couldn’t get the insurance because that is medicaid, which is usually a state funded program. You definitely need to contact the SSI office to find out. If your benefits terminated when you move out of the US, you will have to re-establish eligibility when you return and reapply for benefits. I worked for the medicaid office for 30 years so I have some knowledge of the working of the SSI program, but not 100% sure about the residency requirement.

if you’re on ssi and you move to another country they are not going to send the check to you. as of putting it on hold i have a very big doubt on that because there are too many people another that are trying to get it.

Your SSI will end once you are out of the country for over 30 days.

No, you cannot keep SSI or Medicare if you are living in another country. SSI is given to help you live in the USA, not Mexico. Also, Medicare is for USA health care, not Mexico’s. For you to try and finagle a way around this would seem like fraud to me. If you do, and found out, you could be prosecuted and made to pay everything back.

You would have to apply for everything all over again once you re-enter the USA.

Honestly, they wont let you get any money from SSI if you’re out of USA for 30 days. Plus if you are in Mexico too long, they will not give you any money because they are helping people to live in USA and not another country. It would be stupaid if you play game with SSI because they will put you right into jail for very long time and you have to pay all of that back to them. I suggest that you let them know that you’re heading back to Mexico and you will be back to USA in year. So you dont deal with Lawyers, Jail Time, and everything.
