Start by contacting AirAsia directly. They may be offering travel waivers. If they are not, contact your travel insurance company and find out if the unrest in Bangkok is enough for you to use the policy.

It is at the airline’s discretion to allow refunds on non-refundable tickets for extenuating circumstances, such as political unrest — you’d need to contact the airline directly to see whether they will allow such a refund to be made. With respect to your travel insurance, you’d need to contact the company who issued the insurance directly to see whether political unrest is an acceptable reason for travel cancellation — some policies may allow it, and some may not.

Air Asia is one of the most restrictive airlines in the business when it comes to refunds, schedule changes, cancellations, etc. unless you buy the higher priced more flexible economy ticket.

If you bought an “economy promo” ticket, you most likely will not be able to get a refund if Air Asia indeed flies the flight from SIN to BKK, which they most likely will since the BKK Airport has not been affected by the political situation (except that the airport is now heavily guarded by soldiers).

One problem with Air Asia is that they’re almost impossible to contact by phone. I would check with your insurance company to see if you’re covered, but I think you may be out of luck with Air Asia unless you bought a refundable ticket.

You could always fly to BKK, and then go to another destination in Thailand, only Bangkok is experiencing violence at the present time. Also, keep and eye on the news, the crises may end soon, one way or another. Try contacting Air Asia, if you can.
