Yes, she will get excellent care and followup. She will have a bill to pay…probably about $1000 for the surgery and maybe a couple of hundred a day for hospital stay…you will need to ask. I have found hospital bills to be about 1/10 or less what they are in the U.S. You can call the information operator and ask for the international information operator. She should be able to get the hospital number for you.

To contact the Consulate of Canada, call 01-333-671-4740 Guadalajara. I don’t know what services they may have over a holiday. Here is a link to the Canadian Club of Lake Chapala. They are a large active group and someone may be able to you.

There is a service available to fly patients to the US, but I don’t have a name or number. I agree with Charlie. Your mom will get good, reasonably priced service at Hospital Ayala. A flight back would be very expensive and painful for her.

I have had several friends who have had operations at that hospital and said it is a well run, well equipped hospital. They said many of the doctors speak English although the nurses don’t.

ADD: If she was in a car accident, and had Mexican auto insurance, the insurance will pay the hospital bills
